PureLoad - A software for performance and characteristics test of IP server applications such as streaming, mobile, web, and VoIP. PureLoad simulate from single clients to millions of simultaneous users through its scalable architecture.

PureLoad saves you time through all stages of testing, from setting up, defining, changing, executing, trouble shooting, to automating tests and test environment. For efficient DevOps and CI environments PureLoad can be complemented with PureTest for functional tests. Test cases can be re-used between the two tools.

PureLoad is hardware and OS independent. No scripting or programming or advance training is needed. The software is controlled from a central GUI, where test cases and time distributed scenarios can be built, executed, monitored, analyzed, and compared.
PureLoad simulate clients on a protocol level. A mix of supported protocols can be used to build realistic scenarios. PureLoad is designed to be independent of the technology used on the server side.

Features

PureLoad is a performance and characteristics test tool for internet applications.

PureLoad supports the following protocols: IPv4 and IPv6, HTTP/HTTPS, Asynchronous HTTP, Web Sockets, Telnet, SSH, FTP, Network Utility (echo, Ping, DNS etc.), Directory Server (LDAP), Database (JDBC), Mail (IMAP, POP3, SMTP).
With extra licensing there is also support for one or all of: HTTP/2, HTTP Adaptive Bitrate Streaming (HLS, HSS, HDS, MPEG-DASH), RTP/RTSP/RTMP Streaming, Diameter, Radius, SIP, GTP, TCP/UDP.
Platform Independent - Hardware and OS independent. Runs on any platform that supports Java version 1.8 or higher.
Supported OS - Windows, Mac OS X and Linux/UNIX.
Web Server Technologies - PureLoad is designed to be independent of the web server. This is achieved by working on a protocol level and simulating the traffic generated between the client and the server.
Supports: JavaEE, ASP, .NET/C#, PHP,Ruby, AJAX, SOAP, Apache and Apache Tomcat, Windows IIS, NGINX, Oracle Weblogic.
Distributed Architecture - Can be setup in a distributed architecture, where load can be generated from a single machine or distributed on multiple machines.

Getting Started

PureLoad Editions

PureLoad Free – 100 thread license with fully featured load test software to make load test of mobile- and web-applications.
PureLoad Web - adds capabilities to monitor your servers as well as possibility to scale in capacity to fully support load and stress testing of mobile- and web-applications based on HTTP/HTTPS.
PureLoad Enterprise - supports load and stress testing of many different ip-based Enterprise server applications.
PureLoad Enterprise Developers Edition - suits smaller and early performance test efforts done by developers or when testing in CI or agile test environments.

Requirements

PureLoad is verified on Linux, Mac OS X and Windows operating systems.
Java Standard Edition 8 (Java SE 8) from Oracle is required. Installers with bundled Java is provided and recommended on Windows.

Installation

PureLoad is distributed in a self-extracting format. Simply execute the installer and answer the questions about install location, etc. in the graphical user interface provided.
For details on how to execute the installer on different operating systems, see instructions in the mail that included the license.

License

When you purchase PureLoad (or request a free license) you will receive a license file that reflects your specific license options. The license is a text file that must be installed in the <install-home>/license directory. The name of the file must be pureload.license.
Note: The current license information can be viewed from within the PureLoad GUI using the "About->License Info..." menu choice.

Uninstall PureLoad

The steps to uninstall PureLoad depends on the platform being used, but you will find an application in the <install-home> directory named PureLoad Uninstaller. Start the application and you will be guided through the uninstall process.

Concepts

The following sections briefly covers important PureLoad concepts that you need to understand before trying to start and use PureLoad.

Scenarios and Tasks

A test case in PureLoad is structured as Scenarios. A scenario is defined by a series of tasks or sequences of tasks and is the unit that are executed by workers (load servers).
A task is the smallest form of operation in PureLoad and normally consist of a client request (for example a HTTP request), but can also be a utility task to check a previous result or extract information from a previous result.

Quick Start

A typical PureLoad session includes:

Create test scenario using the PureLoad GUI, optionally using the HTTP Recorder.
Test and debug the scenario using the PureLoad GUI.
Create and populate your load servers.
Define your monitors on the System Under Test.
Add time/load distribution and run your scenarios.
When you have one (or several) test scenarios you probably want to automate and run the saved PLC file using the PureLoad Runner.
